How to set a record plan for my NVR?

1. Preface

To get your NVR record, you need to confirm below first:

1. A hard drive is installed in the NVR
2. The hard drive is formatted

You can check the hard drive status and format your hard drive here:
Right click your NVR mouse, then click System setting – General setting – HDD setting. It will show the HDD information and status. If it shows “Unformatted”, select the hard drive and click Format.

Once hard drive is formatted, NVR will start recording automatically.
NVR is set to record 24/7 continuously in default.

2. Recording Mode
xmartO system supports multiple recording modes, including manual, time-schedule and motion detection recording. You can choose any of the recording mode or a combination of multiple recording modes.

3. Instructions of How-to Setup Record Mode

3.1 Manual Record
Manual record allows you to turn on/off recording quickly with a click of this shortcut key.

Here is how:
1. Right click your mouse to pop out NVR main menu, choose “Manual record”.
2. Select the channels you want to record.
Click “All ON” if you want all channels to start recording.
And click “All OFF” if you want all channels to stop recording.
3. Click “OK” to save the settings.

xmartO Wireless Camera System Video Detection Area Edit

The xmartO wireless camera system features video motion detection. The motion detection can trigger either an email alert, or the built-in buzzer in the NVR.
Whether you want to set motion detection to trigger buzzer, or email alert, we suggest you to select buzzer during the settings so you have real time responses/ indications.

1.Click right button on mouse --> go to System Setup  --> Record Setup  --> Video detection, you shall find the options.

2. Select the channel you want to edit, select the Buzzer, then click Area edit.

Tips: Please mind the channel #. You can only setup one channel’s motion detection at a time. The NVR has one buzzer only so if you missed the settings of any channel, it could trigger the only buzzer/ email alert.

1.jpg

3. Entering the Area edit you should see page as below picture. The blue area is the area that the camera is detecting. So the system detects full picture by default.

Click right button you can clear all detected area. (Transparent with no color)

2.jpg

Detects full picture

3.jpg

Does not detect anything in the picture

4. Click left button and drag to choose area you want the camera to detect. For areas you want to exempt, leave them transparent with no color.

Tips: After selecting areas, you MUST click right button to Return – Apply the settings; or else it won’t be saved. The settings COULD TAKE SOME SECONDS TO TAKE EFFECT.

4.jpg

5. Test if settings are saved. After settings saved, waving hand at a distance may not trigger the buzzer. This is normal because the system’s algorithm is designed to avoid false alert. Waving hand near the camera’s lens, or walk into the detection area should trigger the buzzer; which means your area motion detection settings succeed.

5.jpg

6. Save and exit the video detection.
Unselect the buzzer if you don’t want it to disturb.
Select the Email Notice if you want to receive email alerts when motion detected

6.jpg

Video detection is only an email alert trigger, finishing this setting does not mean it would send you emails if your email settings are not done.

My xmartO camera system cannot go ONLINE

Following the user guide, plug a network cable to the WAN port on back of NVR, within 1 minute, you shall see NVR status changes to ONLINE and the NVR is ready to be viewed from anywhere anytime.

What if my system refuses to go ONLINE?

Basic troubleshooting

1.Check if your network cable is connected to the Ehernet port of your NVR. Please make sure you plug the other side into the LAN port of your home router.

Help_center_-A3.2-_.png

If NVR is getting signal, there should be flash light. If not, please check the connection and cable.

2.If point 1 is right and NVR is OFFLINE, then it should be DHCP issue.

Help_center_-A3.1_.png

Enable DHCP on your NVR.
Click right button of mouse, go to System Setting - Network Setting - check (√) the DHCP, apply and save it. Wait for 1 minute to see if the status on bottom right corner changes to ONLINE.

3. If step 2 does not solve the issue, probably your router disabled DHCP or block new devices from connecting. What DHCP does is: when router find new device connected, DHCP allocate new IP to the device and connect it to the Internet.

An easiest way to know if your router enables DHCP

When you connect a new device to your WiFi for Internet service (or a visitor/ friend wanted WiFi connection), does it require WiFi password only? If only password required, then your router has DHCP enabled; if that requires not only password but also some settings, then your router is secured from connecting new devices. Please ask people who secured the WiFi (who set password) to enable the NVR to connect.

These 3 steps should enable 95% users to get NVR ONLINE. Even if the status shows OFFLINE after all this, we suggest you to use APP and access the device ID to see if it works.

Note: Always wait for 1 minute after any change.

Advanced troubleshooting

If the basic steps above does not solve the issue. Follow below steps to do further troubleshooting.

1.Make sure the cable you connect to NVR has Internet access.  Please use a laptop or any PC has RJ45 port

  • Disable the wireless connection of laptop.
  • Unplug the network cable from NVR and plug it into the PC, see if the PC can access the Internet via the cable.
  • If it does, then the cable is good; if it does not, change a cable.
  • If cable is good yet no Internet connection, please ask help from your network administrator to give the cable Internet access.

2.Enable DHCP of your router
Please login your router page via a browser. Find DHCP settings, ENABLE DHCP.

For more details about enabling DHCP please refer to, http://www.wikihow.com/Configure-a-Router-to-Use-DHCP

What if even DHCP does not work; or I cannot/ don’t want to use DHCP?

Well, we can allocate IP manually for the NVR and connect it to Internet.
1.Know your router gateway.
This is the IP that goes to the menu of your router.
This will vary slightly from manufacturer to manufacturer, and will be listed in the documentation.

Here are some common IP addresses for various routers:

  • Linksys, 3Com, Asus, Dell, US Robotics: 192.168.1.1
  • Qwest (AKA CenturyLink), DLink, Netgear, Trendnet, Senao: 192.168.0.1
  • Belkin, Microsoft, and SMC: 192.168.2.1
  • Apple: 10.0.1.1

If you have misplaced your documentation, and you do not see your router listed here, search on Google for your router name and "default IP address" to find the correct information.

Another way to locate your router's IP address: on a PC, open the command prompt (click on Start > Run/Search for cmd) and enter ipconfig. Look for the Default Gateway line, and try that number.

On a Macintosh, open the Network control panel (System Preferences..., Network) and look for Router: This is your router's IP address.

2. Go to NVR’s System Setting- Network Setting

Help_center_-A3.4_.png

a) Uncheck the DHCP.
b) Set the IP address to a number that follows your router gateway: for example, if your router gateway is 192.168.3.1, the IP address should be 192.168.3.ANY NUMBER( 2-254). If your router gateway is 192.168.1.1, the IP address should be 192.168.1.ANY NUMBER (2-254).
c) Set both the Gateway and Preferred DNS to your gateway.

Apply and save the settings. Wait for 1 minute to see if NVR’s status changes to ONLINE.

Contact support@xmarto.com" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">support@xmarto.com if this does not solve the problem.

What if I cannot get any display on TV from the NVR system?

This is caused by resolution compatibility issue.
The default output resolution of the NVR is 1280*1024, which may not be compatible with some screens.

Here is how to solve it:

  1. Connect the NVR to any other screen via VGA; (or you may also try any other screen via HDMI to see if you can enter the menu)
  2. When you are able to see the menu, click right button on mouse, go to System Setup – General Setup – Screen Setup – VGA resolution; change it to 1080p@60; apply to save it.
  3. Connect it back your primary screen via HDMI. You should have it worked with the screen.

How do I know if my system come with a hard drive?

There are 2 ways to confirm if HDD is included:

  • See the model number of item.
  • Items with HDD should have tail like -500GB, -1TB, 2TB.
  1. For instance, WOS1344 means 1.3MP 4CH kit with 4 cameras; WOS1344-1TB means the same kit with 1TB HDD.
  • See Packing Includes.
  • In the detailed listing/ advertising page of each item, there should be Packing Includes information. If HDD included, we/ dealers will mention about it in the Packing Includes.

Get Better WiFi Connection between Camera and DVR

1. Positioning Your Wireless NVR and Cameras

Proper placement of the wireless NVR in your home will help ensure you achieve maximum coverage.
Placing the wireless NVR centrally in your home, will help make certain that no matter where you mount your cameras, they will be able to wirelessly connect.

Do not place near high voltage wires or other sources of electrical interference.  Electrical interference will degrade the quality of the signal.

1-1.png

1-2.png

4.jpg

If there has to be obstacles between the NVR and camera, adjust the height of camera or NVR to avoid floor. Floors are normally heavier than walls.

1.jpg

Always find possible open between NVR and camera, mount camera and place NVR’s spot accordingly to allow signal to pass.

3.jpg

Metal walls (including metal garage gate) absorb wifi signal. Use extra extendable wifi antenna to bring camera's antenna inside the wall. This also works for heavy concrete wall.

5.jpg

Try to keep camera and NVR's antennas parallel to get better signal pick-up.

2. How Obstacles Affect Your Signal Strength

When your wireless signal is transmitted through various materials, such as walls and windows, the signal strength is affected. Though the NVR and wireless camera may be very close in proximity, you could still notice high signal interference if the signal passes through certain obstacles. For instance, if the signal passes through a concrete wall it will be severely weakened. Please reference the below chart to see which obstacles highly affect your signal and which do not.

1-3.png

3. How to boost cameras' WiFi signals

a. Use antenna with extension cable
As you know, the biggest issue for the cameras is not distance, but obstacles, typically walls, especially metal walls. If your setup requires the signal to be transmitted through an obstacle that severely weakens it, you can use the 9 ft. Wi-Fi Extender Antenna included with your system. The Extender Antenna can be used to bypass the obstacle weakening the signal. Simply replace the white Camera Antenna with the Extender Antenna and then mount the Extender Antenna on the opposing side of the obstacle.

antenna.jpg

b. Use our new Dream Liner technology
The xmartO Dream Liner technology uses cameras in middle as repeaters. That way, further cameras connect to closer cameras 1st, and then to the NVR as a group. You can find more information about Dream Liner here:
http://www.xmarto.com/dreamliner

711kYjJOyrL._SL1500__.jpg

4. Hard Wire Cameras
If one or few cameras are out of wifi range, you can use standard CAT5e cables to hard wire cameras to router to make them work wired. The xmartO NVR comes with one Ethernet port only, if you want to hard wire cameras, you can hard wire them to router to make the cameras work wired.

Since cameras are paired to work wirelessly with NVR in default, if you want them to work wired, you need to delete cameras from NVR, and repair them to NVR to work wired.

Contact xmartO at support@xmarto.com for help if you need to hard wire cameras.

Do I have to have internet to use xmartO wireless kits? Is there any monthly fee?

  1. There is no monthly fee required.
  2. You don’t have to have a router to make the system work. The NVR has a built-in WiFi router enabling automatic connection to the cameras.
  3. Internet service is not mandatory. Without router & Internet service, you are able to use the system completely. You can monitor on screen, record to hard drive (not included for some models) and playback, backup video etc.

Yet if you connect the system to Internet, you will be able to view remotely from phones and PC.

Mac OS Sierra Gatekeeper stops me from installing Mac EseeCloud App. What should I do?

Below applies to Mac version older than OSX 10.12.x:
Sometimes upon opening an app you've just downloaded you might see the following error: XX is damaged and can't be opened. You should move it to the Trash. This is a glitch in OS X's Gatekeeper system. Gatekeeper is designed to protect you from malware but you might see this error if you update software, or attempt to run an app that you've previously downloaded and deleted in the past.

move_to_trash.png

In fact, the app isn't damaged and there's no need to delete it. The solution is as follows:

1. Open System Preferences and click the Security & Privacy icon.

2. Click the padlock icon at the bottom left to unlock System Preferences, entering your password when prompted, then ensure the General tab is selected at the top of the window.

3. Click the radio button alongside “Anywhere”, beneath the Allow Apps Downloaded From heading. You'll be warned this is insecure but, don't worry, this is only temporary.

4. Right-click the troublesome app, then select Open. Ensure the app runs for the first time.

5. Return to System Preferences, and click the radio button alongside Mac App Store and Identified Developers (or just Mac App Store, if you want total security — but this will mean you’ll need to right-click any apps you manually download in future, and right-click them and select Open).

The app is now authorized by Gatekeeper and will run fine in future.

disable-gatekeeper-mac-os-x.jpg

Below applies to Mac version OSX 10.12.x and newer:

1. Open the Terminal app from the /Applications/Utilities/ folder

terminal.png

2. Enter the following command syntax.

sudo spctl --master-disable

3. Hit return and authenticate with an admin password if needed. You’ll now be able to open and launch apps from anywhere under macOS Sierra.

3.jpg

Returning to Default Gatekeeper Security in macOS Sierra:
You can also reverse this and go back to the default strict Gatekeeper settings of only allowing apps from the Mac App Store and identified developers by issuing the following command string:

sudo spctl --master-enable

Hitting return and re-authenticating will return macOS Gatekeeper back to its strict default state of disallowing random apps from launching

Important tips: upgrade your NVR to latest version for security.

In past weeks some customers’ NVRs’ config files were revised remotely, causing the NVRs staying at logo page without entering the OS. This only happens to NVRs meet below 3 points:

  1.  The NVR was produced before 2017, with firmware version earlier than 2.5.5.0.
  2. In user’s router setting, UPNP was enabled and users have completed port forwarding setting, which is actually needed only for old DVRs.
  3. User did not set an NVR admin password or the admin password is too simple.

Any customer whose NVR does not meet all the 3 conditions shall not have the risk. Yet we do suggest all customers to upgrade the NVRs to latest version to avoid any possible security issue.

  1. If you have access to your NVR’s menu, go to System setting – System admin – System upgrade, upgrade your NVR to latest version from online.
  2. If your NVR stays at logo, please unplug the Ethernet cable to see if you can enter the system menu.
If you can, plug the ethernet cable back, go to System setting – System admin – System upgrade, upgrade your NVR to latest version from online.
If online upgrade does not work, do local upgrade:
    1.  Check your NVR’s model # on the bottom label. Download its latest firmware  from, https://www.xmarto.com/downloads
    2.  Copy the firmware to a USB flash drive and upgrade your NVR locally. Here is how to, https://www.xmarto.com/helpcenter/index.php?action=artikel&cat=1&id=2&artlang=en
  3. If you unable to enter the NVR’s menu. Please contact support@xmarto.com for an system restore solution.

In the meanwhile, we suggest all customers to set an admin password and keep record of the password.

Thank you!
